In Person Workshop

For the practical element of the workshop, participants will be sent a selection of scenes in advance and asked to prepare one scene of their choosing. This will be sent approximately 4 days prior to the workshop to help replicate the ‘real world’ timescales of typical castings.

You’ll be asked to be as familiar as possible with the scene, but you will be welcome to bring a paper or digital copy of the scene with you on the day.

In turn, each participant will work on their scene with Julia and Wayne in front of the other participants. You’ll receive feedback on your read on elements such as characterisation, camera technique and performance skills.

After a break for lunch, there will be a discussion and Q&A session. Here, Julia and Wayne will talk in more depth on their casting process, with tips and advice on how to prepare for castings, based on their combined 40 years of working in TV! Their aim is to help demystify and explain the commercial business elements of the industry, which sit alongside the creative.

This will be your opportunity to ask questions and you are encouraged to think about these questions in advance; write them down and bring them along with you!

Online Workshop

For the practical element of the workshop, participants will be sent a selection of scenes in advance. Participants will choose one scene to self-tape and will submit this tape no later than 48 hours before the workshop.

Julia and Wayne will view your self-tape ahead of the online workshop and will prepare some feedback notes which they will give to you during the session.

During the workshop, everyone will watch each participant’s self-tape as a group. Julia and Wayne will give you some notes and then, with the notes fresh in your mind, you will have a second read of the scene live with Julia/Wayne reading-in with you.

The feedback on your read will look at elements such as characterisation, camera technique, performance skills and the key aspects of your approach to self-tapes, live online castings and in-person castings.

Once each participant has read, there will be a Q & A / discussion. The aim is to help demystify and explain the commercial business elements of the industry, which sit alongside the creative. You are encouraged to think about your questions in advance; write them down and bring them along with you!
